Kings vs. DESS Swimming Gala

On Monday the 27th of October, the Kings' Dubai swim squad had their first gala of the term, at DESS. From our class there were 3 competitors, Sophie, Murray and Mark. At 3.10 the gala started. Kings got off to a strong start, winning the first few races. It was a timing gala, not a competition, but it was still as fun! On the pool side it was like a picnic for the swimmers, because some of us brought lots of snacks. Everyone did fantasticaly well, some setting personal best times. The stars from each year in my opinion were:
Ellie and Natasha - Year 3
Cameron and Ellie - Year 4
Becky,Charlotte,and Kian - Year 5
Mark, Kirra,William and Euan, Murray- Year 6

Great support from everyone in the squad, as well as parents.

Kings' Dubai vs EC football report

Yesterday we went up to Raffles to play a football match against EC. We were warmly welcomed by Raffles and their school isn't very far from Kings'.
On the pitch we had Joe (me) in goal, TJ, Conner and Patrick in defence, Oscar and Tom in midfield and Karam as our striker.
We won the toss and started in great form. Straight away, the ball was passed up to the EC's penalty box and it stayed up for a long time. When EC got the ball again, they passed it up to halfway but Patrick immediately got the ball off them and passed it back into the box again. The EC defence tried to deflect the ball but made it a corner. Oscar crossed it in but because he is quite short, EC easily headed the ball away. The EC midfielder ran down the wing and booted the ball into the box. Joe came out and smashed the ball back down into EC's half. Oscar got the ball but was fouled by EC's defender when he was one on one with the goalie. Oscar crossed the ball to Karam but he was surrounded by EC players. EC got the ball and had a shot at goal. They shot the ball from their half so they standed no chance at all. The ball went wide and it was a goal kick. Joe booted it to Karam on the left wing and then Karam ran into the box. The EC goalie who was called Joe as well, dived onto the ball and kicked it away. The whistle blew and it was half time. Kings' had done well to keep the ball and kept it up field for most of the first half.
EC started the second half but quickly lost the ball as Oscar took it off them. Oscar passed it in to Karam. He shot but the ball just went over the crossbar. The EC goalkeeper smacked the ball down to the halfway line but TJ headed it back into EC's half. The ball was kept in Kings' possession for a long time until EC got the ball and passed it to their striker. EC's striker ran the ball through the gap and got really close to the penalty box but TJ slide tackled the ball from their striker but it was EC's corner. In the box Patrick was marking the back post but was shoved out of the way by EC and EC scored a header. Everybody from Kings' was complaining to the ref but he said that he hadn't seen it. We kicked off and passed it up into EC's penalty box. EC's defence smacked the ball up into our half and Conner got the ball. He had the EC striker right behind him so he had to run backwards. I was shouting at him to boot the ball out so for some reason he boots the ball into our net. An own goal. The full time whistle blew and we had lost 1-0 with an own goal by Conner.

We went to JPS to play against Horizon. We kicked off and the Horizon defender kicked the ball out so we had a throw in by TJ. He threw it to Oscar in the box and shouted his name as he did so, Oscar headed it in the goal! 1-0 to us. then they kicked off and had a shot but our goalkeeper Patrick saved it. They took a corner but our defence cleared and the ball ended up with Karam he passed it to TJ and then TJ pummeled it into the bottom corner everyone was cheering except for Horizon2-0 to us. The next goal was scored by Karam TJ crosed it in and Karam back healed it in the air and scored 3-0 to us. As soon as we kicked off Oscar ran the hole pitch and scored after that we kept playing untill it was end of the match and that ment Kings had won!

To Get A Point You Have To.....

1. Eat your lunch quickly and quietly
2. Keep your lunch box on the floor
3. Put all the waste into the big and bins and wipe the tables
4. Sit in your seats and wait to be called out

At the moment, the table in the lead is table 5, which includes Oscar.P (6ts), Corynn (5kon), Hannah(5kon), Florence (3jm), Alma (3jm), Clodagh (3jm), Ijah (2jf), Sean (2jf), Oskar (1dd) and Dylan (1dd). They have scored a possible 9 points out of 10 which is the record so far.

Mr. Watson's first appearance this year!

Today Mr. Watson played on his drums for the first time this year. When we were in assemby and waiting for Jumana! to start we sang a song. Mr. Watson jumped out of his seat and rushed to play the drums while Mrs. Anderson played the piano and we all sang.
It was amazing and we all sang so loud, we had a good time!

This is Mr. Watson and Mrs. Anderson playing together:

JUMANA !!

On Sunday the 19th of October, Jumana came to Kings' Dubai to give us a preview of their spectacular show. First of all there were some crazy puppets, that made everyone laugh except the little kids who were terrified! Then came the female dancers, who were dancing with real expression. Next up was the pair dancing where the man lifted the lady so high she was above his head. After that the most exciting part of all was up, the gymnasts. There was 2 men and 1 woman and they were incredible, with all of their stunts. We really enjoyed the show!

Gold Book - 25/09/08

Each week there is one assembly where very special students get to come to the front of the hall and Mrs.Watson reads out their gold book entry. The Gold Book is a book in which any member of the staff can write a student's name and their achievement. A gold book entry is very special as only 2 people get in every week, thats the usual number. A Gold Book entry can be for anything. From swimming to maths. Out of the 3 Gold Book entries this year so far 2 have been from our class.

These 2 people got in for something very different. They got in for attending and behaving very well, behaving politely, asking great questions and generally just being very good. Well done to Nick and Sophie. We hope that we will be able to write about many othe people in our class very soon.

Nick quotes:"I felt so proud when I walked to the front of the hall. It was the best day of my life and I shall always remember it."

Sophie says: " Being in the Gold Book was incredible. I felt so proud that even though it was
only the first week of the year I had done something good enough to get into the Gold Book."

micro-organisms

We have been learning about microbes in Year 6.We did an experiment about what conditions microbes need to grow on apples and bread. We found out that they prefer the heat, moist and sugar but they they can still grow in the classroom. However they didn't grow as much in the fridge because it was too cold for them to multiply. After a few days the the apples only had a little bit of mold on but the bread had none. The next week the apple had got loads of mold on it but the bread had just started to harden. Two days after the microbes broke a quarter of the apple. Most of the apple had gone so moldy that it juiced it self. The bread had black dots, got realy hard and the microbes broke the bread down.

We did another experiment this was to test how much yeast needs to grow to do our experiment we used a empty bottle and a balloon. You need warm water and sugar. When the yeast mixed with the sugar and warm water, the fugi was happy and multiplied. When it multiplied it gave off a gas and some of the baloons blew up but ours didn't.

Star of the week

Star of the week is when a child behaves well in some way like being helpful. Our first star of the week was James for being a superb Year 6 role model. Our next star of the week was Oliver for taking the initiative and being a helpful responsible member of year 6. The third member in star of the week was Oscar for encouraging people at Magic Planet and helping them do their best. Last of all Teigan was in star of the week because when it was opening day she was very confident and polite and she showed everyone everywhere. Kings dubai vs Jess Football Report

On Sunday 12th October, Kings Dubai faced Jess Jumeirah in a football match. We had a good team but Jess had a pretty good team to. Kings' won the toss and got to start.
Kings' got off to a good start and got the ball really close to the goal but then the Jess defence did a brilliant slide tackle and got the ball. Jess crossed the ball into the box but Joe booted it away to Karam. It didn't go far enough and the defence got the ball.
Two minutes later Jess ran down the wing and whipped it into the box. Jess got the ball and did a light tap past Patrick (Our goalkeeper). The rest of the first 8 minutes was just running about except for in the last minute where Karam passed a lovely ball to Oscar who had a clear shot but the whistle blew just before he was about to shoot.
It was half time.
After half time we swapped sides and got ready to start the second half.
There was a slight delay because the ref was waiting for the correct time to start.
When the half finally started, Jess booted the ball down to the right forward who then did a powerful half volley into the bottom corner.
Later on in the game, Conner set up a great chance for Karam to score a goal but all three Jess defenders surrounded him. Jess smacked the ball up field and got themselves a free kick. They scored a beautiful indirect shot and scored.
Back in the centre, Kings' passed it up to Karam. Jess got it off Karam and hoofed it up field. Rakhim got it but it was the end of the match.

Adrian Hayes came to Kings Dubai

The famous explorer Adrian Hayes came to Kings Dubai when we just started learning about him.
We were really excited, especially us (6TS).When we went to the assembly we saw him at the very front of the hall. When we all were ready Mr O'Brien announced
the stars of the week from year1 till year 6. We waited for ages and then, finally, Adrian started to show us some pictures and videos of him conquering the 3 Pole Challenge. For achieving the 3 poles he has gained a place in the guinness book of records. We listened very quietly through his presentation, and learnt lots. After the assembly, we all went to Mr. O'Brien's classrom. He answered questions that we asked. It was very intresting and informative and I hope we will see him again.

Year 6 Trip To Magic Planet

On Wednesday the 24 of September year 6 went to Magic Planet in Mall of the Emirates to go rock climbing. When we got there we were all very excited and we knew we would have a lot of fun. As the teachers guided us through Magic Planet, towards the climbing wall,we were overwhelmed about what we were about to do.When we got to the climbing wall we were all stunned by the height of the wall and couldn't believe that we were going to climb it. After gazing at the wall, the instructor selected the first group of climbers.

First up was Joe,Hassan and TJ and they were all very anxious to get to the top as soon as they could. After some very good climbing, Hassan was the first to get to the top. Many people after them did some very good climbing as well and a few made an attempt to get to the top of the hardest section of the wall but nobody achieved it. After everyone had a turn we all went back to the cars and we all got driven back to school. We all had a good time at Magic Planet and we are hoping to do something like it soon.
